| Many DCBA members have Facebook accounts and regularly
communicate with one another as Facebook friends. We thought it would be
nice to establish a Facebook Group as a way to allow Facebook dancing
friends to have a central meeting space on Facebook. We will post
information in this group about upcoming events and of course members
may publish their thoughts and interests as well. Please try to keep it
relevant to our club or dancing and refrain from advertising or
soliciting the group. Please be courteous to other members. The intent
of this group is friendly exchange, not as a forum for attacking others.
The group currently has an open status meaning anyone who
wants may join. Open groups sometimes become filled with outside parties
spamming the group with the usual outrageous offers we all see in our
email Inbox. We'd like to keep the group status as open since this
encourages participation. If the group starts to become saturated with
unrelated information we may change the group to "Ask To Join" where we
control who joins the group. Hopefully this won't be necessary.
There have been questions regarding privacy in open
groups. People wanted to know if their postings would be visible for all
to see. The short answer is yes, if your privacy settings on your
Facebook account allow anyone to read your account. A closed group would
limit this ability to those allowed into the group. If you have your
privacy settings set to only allow your Facebook friends to view your
information, no one viewing your Facebook ID through the group will have
any more access to your Facebook information than they would if they
found you via a search or through other Facebook users. Please use smart
privacy practices on Facebook or any other social networking site and
make sure only that information you wish to be revealed is open to
others. If you have questions regarding Facebook, this group, privacy,
or anything else please feel free to send your emails to us at the
address below
